Department
The Department of Medical Biotechnology and Translational Medicine, originated from matching interests and expertise in molecular and cellular sciences, sciences applied to medicine and clinical sciences, identifies research and teaching as two aspects to be integrated at most. The Department gathers professors and researchers of scientific areas related to basic research in the field of biophysics, molecular and cellular biology, research applied to medicine, diagnostics, and clinical and surgical medicine, with the purpose to promote and coordinate translational and multidisciplinary research activities.
The aim of the Department is the aggregation of complementary scientific expertise to enable the promotion and enhancement of synergies between clinical research and basic research, identifying in such integration process a significant opportunity for cultural, scientific and educational development. In this context, the emphasis on translational research is one of the key elements of the Department. In other words, it aims to promote the points of contact among clinical research, study of the molecular and cellular basis of diseases, development of methodologies and technologies applicable to the biomedical field, also aiming at the development of innovative strategies in the diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical field and for the maintenance of health. Thanks to the expertise present in the Department, this approach is strongly supported by the possibility of a two-way relationship between the bedside and the laboratory bench, and represents an innovative tool for the study of biologically and clinically relevant issues.
